How to Import and Export Shortcuts Between Apple Shortcuts and Jellycuts
💡
It's important to note that while Jellycuts is an incredibly powerful tool, shortcut import is not universally perfect across all existing shortcuts. This is primarily due to the dynamic nature of the Apple Shortcuts application, which undergoes continuous updates and introduces new functionalities.

The majority of the RoutineHub community is already familiar with JellyCuts. If you're new here, you might find this article particularly insightful. Similarly, if you're a newcomer, you might not yet be aware of the ability to import a Shortcut from Apple's native Shortcuts app directly into Jellycuts. This feature is especially beneficial for developers who appreciate a more technical environment and wish to leverage Jellycuts' interface for editing their shortcuts.

For this demonstration, we'll be using a shortcut called "PDF to Image." We'll walk through importing it via an iCloud link and then verifying that all its actions remain intact upon exporting it back to the Shortcuts app.

The first step is to get the iCloud link for your shortcut. You can do this directly from the Apple Shortcuts application:

  1. Open the Shortcuts app on your device.
  2. Locate the "PDF to Image" shortcut (or the shortcut you intend to import).
  3. Tap the three dots (...) in the top-right corner of the shortcut to access its editor.
  4. Tap the share icon (the square with an arrow pointing upwards) at the bottom.
  5. Select "Share Shortcut" or "Copy iCloud Link." This action will copy the link to your clipboard.

Step 2: Import the Shortcut into Jellycuts

With the iCloud link in hand, it's time to bring your shortcut into Jellycuts:

  1. Launch the Jellycuts app.
  2. Find the "+" icon and choose "Import from iCloud Link."
  3. Paste the iCloud link you copied in the previous step.
  4. Confirm the import. Jellycuts will process the shortcut and add it to your library.

Step 3: Rename the Shortcut in Jellycuts

Once imported, you'll see the "PDF to Image" shortcut listed in Jellycuts. For this example, we'll rename it:

  1. Tap on the "PDF to Image" shortcut in Jellycuts.
  2. Locate the "Rename" option.
  3. Change the name to "PDF to Image Jelly."
  4. Save your changes.

Step 4: Export the Modified Shortcut Back to Apple Shortcuts

This is where we confirm the seamless integration:

  1. Within Jellycuts, select your renamed "PDF to Image Jelly" shortcut.
  2. The Jelly code for your shortcut will appear. Now, simply tap the arrow icon to export it to the Shortcuts app.
  1. Jellycuts, using JellyCuts Helper, will then add the exported shortcut to your Shortcuts Library.
  2. The Apple Shortcuts app will open, prompting you to add the "PDF to Image Jelly" shortcut. Confirm the addition.

Step 5: Verify Actions within the Shortcuts App

After "PDF to Image Jelly" has been added to your Shortcuts app library, perform this final check:

  1. Open the "PDF to Image Jelly" shortcut in the Shortcuts app.
  2. Compare the actions within this shortcut to those of the original "PDF to Image" shortcut. You should observe that all actions, their configurations, and their order are identical. This demonstrates the accuracy of Jellycuts' import and export capabilities.
