iOS 17.6 is about to arrive on the iPhone and these are the new features.
Apple is not only preparing for the iOS 18 update, but the company is also set to release what could be the last major update for iOS 17. Very soon, in just a few days, all iPhone users will be able to download iOS 17.6 and enjoy some interesting new features that come with this update.
Beta Phase Insights
During its beta phase, iOS 17.6 did not include many major new features. However, there was speculation about the release of iOS 17.5.2 before iOS 17.6, which now seems to have been scrapped, so the new features of this small update will also be included in iOS 17.6.
What’s New in iOS 17.6 for iPhone
We are reaching the end of the development of iOS 17, with all efforts already focused on iOS 18, so it is normal that new features have diminished. Moreover, iOS 17 has been an operating system packed with new features that iPhone users have greatly enjoyed, not to mention that the iPhones compatible with iOS 18 are exactly the same as the models compatible with iOS 17.
Therefore, iOS 17.6 will not be an update with significant new features like those that came in previous versions such as iOS 17.1, iOS 17.2, or the historic update to iOS 17.4.
Security Improvements
Considering that Apple had planned to release iOS 17.5.2 before iOS 17.6, it seems that this update will address significant security issues. It's been quite some time since we had an update for iOS 17, the last one being iOS 17.5.1 at the end of May, so it's likely that important security issues have been found during this time.
New Features in Apple TV+
On the other hand, it seems that Apple is testing a new feature in Apple TV+ for all users with the MLS Season Pass. This new feature will allow you to "catch up" when you start watching a match that has already started. You will get a brief summary in the form of short videos with the match's highlights. This feature is called "Key Plays" and will be available in iOS 17.6.
It's a more interesting feature than it seems, as Apple might be preparing to offer more live sports in the future, so it could be easily implemented in other live events.

When Will iOS 17.6 Be Released?
Last week, Apple released the fourth beta of iOS 17.6, clearly indicating that its development is almost complete. The RC version is likely to be released this week or next, so the final version could arrive at the end of July or early August, provided nothing changes in Apple's plans.
This would mean more than two months between updates, something we haven't seen in previous iOS versions. While this is not bad news, it means that iOS 17.5.1 is a stable version with hardly any errors. It also suggests that iOS 17.6 is likely to be the last update of the system, as iOS 18 is expected to be released in mid-September.
