iPad owners, beware! Updating to iPadOS 18 might still not be a good idea

Apple is encountering issues with its latest operating system, iOS 18, but in addition to the typical challenges like app sync problems or battery life concerns, there's now a significant issue affecting iPads running iPadOS.

According to reports from several , Apple has paused the rollout of iPadOS 18 for iPads due to a “bricking” problem that leaves the device unusable. Early reports surfaced on Reddit, where users shared that they had visited their nearest Apple Store to report the issue.

The problem has primarily affected users who attempted to update their iPad Pro 11-inch and iPad Pro 13-inch models, both released this year with the new M4 chip. The bug seems limited to these models, while other iPads in the lineup have updated without incident.

Although the number of affected users is small, the devices in question have become non-functional. Customers have been able to swap out their devices through Apple’s warranty service.

In response, Apple has pulled the iPadOS 18 update for these models, preventing further devices from installing it until a fix is found that avoids rendering the iPads unusable.

It’s worth noting that not all iPads with the new M4 processor are impacted. Apple continues to offer the update for earlier iPad models, as well as iPad Mini and iPad Air.

At the same time, some iPhone users who have upgraded to iOS 18 are reporting issues with slower download times and a noticeable decrease in battery life, which they believe has shortened their overall battery endurance.
